In preparation for this dossier, I met with the chair of the guitar department, Larry Baione and discussed a plan for my professional development. The first plan was to study with jazz educator Charlie Banacos for one year and to complete a series of challenging guitar transcriptions that I would perform in a guitar department concert in September 04. I have been studying with Mr. Banacos since January and I have completed the transcriptions, which are presented in Part II of this dossier. The concert was on September 23rd 2004 and the musicians that shared the stage with me were faculty members Daryl Lowery, Joe Santerre, Mike Mangini, Equie Castrillo and Russ Hoffmann.

The pieces that I transcribed were:

  1. "Chatter" Music by Mike Stern

  2. "South Side" Music by Tony McAlpine

  3. "Confluence" Music by Adam Rogers

  4. "Hold On" Music by Tony McAlpine

Other Lesson Materials covered this year with Mr. Banacos:

  1. Single String 4-part arpeggios with patterns over maj7, –7, dom 7, -7b5, o7, -maj7, 7sus4, maj7#5, maj7b5, dom7#5, dom7b5, maj7#5sus4.

  2. Bebop approach patterns on all arpeggios to each chord tone separately.

  3. Single String Tension Cogs, which consists of playing arpeggios with all available tensions one string at a time.

  4. Vertical four part chords played firm and arpeggiated using all available tensions, executing them with the use of several arpeggio pattern techniques.

  5. An in-depth study of "Giant Steps" using an extensive amount of triad patterns and scale patterns.

  6. Charlie has also helped me to add to my repertoire close to an additional 40 Jazz Standard tunes including classics like Dexterity, Dahood, Tones for Jones Bones, Giant Steps and Inner Urge.

The second plan we discussed, was that I would complete a training course in learning the state-of-the art recording equipment Pro Tools, and that I would have material recorded on Pro Tools to present in this dossier. The course included training in recording, engineering, mixing, mastering and music production. I completed the training course at the Waltzaudio Recording Studio in Boston, Ma. in March 2004. Since then I have recorded many projects, and have included in Part II of this dossier a CD cover of a project I did with the alternative rock group" Falling North" of which I produced, recorded, engineered, performed, mixed and mastered.
